Gryphia: Discovery
In this novel, I have taken it upon myself to bridge the vast chasm between our present world and the aeonian world of Gryphia. I am reproducing the written and drawn entries of an authentic sluagh record: the personal journal of Omoto Cinerea Discovery. Sluaghs are a humanoid species who live in service to magnificent gryphon masters. The gryphons are beings of tremendous scale and longevity who have constructed a society that operates on rules and hierarchies that will seem both familiar and alien.
The Challenge
My mission is to present this document with utmost fidelity. I have been working diligently since 2019 to translate Discovery's memories into present-day language. However, some meaning is always lost in translation. The sheer gulf of time between Gryphia and our world means that certain subtleties can never be perfectly rendered in our language.
This makes the inclusion of Discovery's drawings critical. They will be presented in-line with the text, as close to the original placement as possible. Where the text can only ever stand as an interpretation, these drawings require no translation. They are the most direct communication we have of Discovery's experience, the purest glimpse of Gryphia as she saw it. The illustrations will fill the gaps where my translation falls short, providing an uncompromised picture of her journey.
The Timeline
Discovery was born and bred to serve as the assistant to Chief Detective Ken, one of the most widely-known and respected gryphons in the immense capital city of Chuuou. This volume covers the arc of her earliest experiences as Chief Detective's Assistant: from the day of her acquisition until the conclusion of her first case.
These journal entries track a complex investigation that forces her to quickly adapt to a demanding new life in a metropolis scaled for giants. For sluaghs, it is a world of danger and confusion. Despite her small stature, both physically and socially, Discovery’s unwavering loyalty and unique insights prove to be indispensable.

- Gryphia Recipe Appendix: I am recreating the meals mentioned in Discovery's journal to present them as accessible, real-world recipes, allowing you to enjoy a literal taste of Gryphia in your own kitchen.
- Illustrated Acknowledgements: I will be acknowledging key gryphon supporters by rendering their portraits in my own hand. They played no role in Discovery's tale, but they were instrumental in bringing it to you.
